Across Bio® Infectious Mononucleosis Test Kit (IM)

The Infectious Mononucleosis (IM) test is a rapid slide hemagglutination test for the detection of heterophile antibodies specific for infectious mononucleosis (IM). Heterophile antibodies are capable of agglutinating red blood cells from various animal species. The IM reagent agglutinates when mixed with serum containing heterophile antibodies. The absence of agglutination indicates the absence of heterophile antibodies. This IM test works by directly detecting heterophile antibodies (HE) produced in infectious mononucleosis in human serum. For this purpose, latex particles coated with antigenic extracts of bovine erythrocyte membranes are used. Agglutination occurs when these latex particles are mixed with samples (serum/plasma) containing heterophile antibodies in infectious mononucleosis. The presence or absence of agglutination indicates the presence or absence of HE antibodies and, consequently, IM disease.
